The British Royal Family is set to come together to mark a significant milestone — the 100th anniversary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II — with a series of commemorative events planned for April 20 and 21.
While King Charles III will lead parts of the tribute, he is also placing his sister, Princess Anne, at the forefront of one of the most meaningful moments.
On the centenary morning, Princess Anne will officially unveil a new memorial garden dedicated to the late Queen. Located in Regent’s Park, the space has been designed as a peaceful setting for reflection in the heart of London — a fitting tribute given Elizabeth’s childhood connections to the city’s green spaces.
In the lead-up to the anniversary, King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to visit a newly opened exhibition celebrating the life and legacy of the late monarch. The exhibition, held at The King’s Gallery near Buckingham Palace, showcases key moments of her reign through fashion and personal items, including iconic dresses and jewellery pieces.
On the day itself, members of the Royal Family will also review the latest plans for a national memorial currently in development to honour Queen Elizabeth II’s life and service. Renowned designer Lord Norman Foster will present updates on the project, which is expected to feature contributions from leading artists.
The commemorations will conclude with a special reception at Buckingham Palace, where the Royal Family will gather alongside guests marking their own centenary milestones. As part of the tradition, King Charles will personally present congratulatory messages to those celebrating their 100th birthdays.
Together, the events are set to reflect not only on the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II but also on her lasting impact on the monarchy and the nation.
