Cat Suddenly Starts Getting Sick Every Day — Then An X-Ray Reveals What He’s Been Secretly Eating

Louie seemed like a perfectly healthy cat — until veterinarians discovered what was hiding inside his stomach.

For nearly a year, Anne had noticed something unusual about her cat, Louie.

Every now and then, he would vomit after eating.

It wasn’t happening constantly, and aside from those occasional episodes, Louie appeared completely normal. He ate well, behaved like himself and showed no obvious signs that something serious might be wrong.

Anne initially believed he might simply have a sensitive stomach.

After all, cats sometimes throw up.

But then Louie’s occasional problem suddenly became impossible to ignore.

Something Changed Almost Overnight

Louie began vomiting far more frequently.

Instead of getting sick only once in a while, he was now throwing up several times in a single day.

Even more concerning, the normally lively cat became noticeably lethargic.

He was still eating and continued using his litter box normally, but Anne knew his sudden change in behavior wasn’t something she could simply watch and wait on.

She rushed Louie to an emergency veterinarian.

What doctors discovered would finally explain the mysterious symptoms he’d been experiencing.

But Anne wasn’t prepared for just how strange the answer would be.

The X-Ray Revealed Something Large Inside His Stomach

Veterinarians examined Louie and took an X-ray.

The image showed a significant foreign mass occupying a large portion of his stomach.

Whatever Louie had swallowed wasn’t going to pass naturally.

He needed emergency surgery.

The procedure was successful, and veterinarians began removing the mysterious material from his stomach.

Then the objects started appearing.

One after another.

And another.

By the time the veterinary team finished, they had removed an astonishing 35 hair ties from Louie’s stomach.

Louie Had Apparently Been Collecting Them For A Long Time

The hair ties hadn’t ended up there all at once.

Louie had apparently been swallowing them secretly over time, allowing them to accumulate inside his stomach until his body could no longer cope.

After surgery, Anne was shown the collection that had been removed from her cat.

All 35 hair ties were gathered together in a plastic bag.

Seeing the sheer number of them was shocking.

But for Anne, there was also a strange sense that the discovery made perfect sense.

Louie had always had a fascination with hair ties.

Anne Thought She Had Already Removed The Danger

When Louie was still a kitten, Anne noticed how much he enjoyed playing with her hair ties.

At some point, a veterinarian warned her that cats could swallow them and that they could become dangerous.

Anne took the warning seriously.

She tried to remove hair ties from Louie’s reach and even began using hair clips instead.

She believed she’d gotten rid of nearly every hair tie in the house.

Yet every once in a while, Louie would somehow appear with another one in his mouth.

No matter how carefully Anne tried to keep them away, the little objects seemed to keep turning up.

What she didn’t realize was that Louie wasn’t merely playing with some of them.

He was swallowing them.

And over time, his secret habit created a potentially dangerous blockage inside his stomach.

Now Louie Is Getting A Second Chance

Fortunately, veterinarians were able to remove all 35 hair ties successfully.

Louie has been recovering well since the operation and is expected to return to his usual personality soon.

Meanwhile, Anne has taken even more precautions.

She carefully searched her home for any remaining hair ties that might still be hiding somewhere within Louie’s reach.

After what happened, she doesn’t want to take any chances.

Louie may have caused quite a scare, but Anne describes him as exactly the kind of cat whose curiosity can sometimes get him into trouble — mischievous, affectionate, silly and endlessly curious.

And despite everything, he’s still an exceptional cuddler.

His Story Comes With A Warning For Other Cat Owners

Louie’s experience ended with a successful surgery, but it could easily have become much more serious.

For Anne, discovering 35 hair ties inside her cat’s stomach became a lesson she hopes other pet owners won’t have to learn the same way.

Small everyday objects can seem harmless, especially when a cat appears to be simply playing with them.

But if swallowed, those objects can potentially accumulate inside the digestive system and lead to a medical emergency.

Louie was lucky.

His strange habit was discovered in time, the surgery went well and he’s now recovering with the person who loves him.

And from now on, there’s one household item Anne will be making absolutely certain Louie never gets his paws on again:

hair ties.
