Pet Tortoise Thought Lost For Decades Discovered Alive In Attic — Family Left Speechless

For years, Nathalye De Almeida grew up hearing emotional stories from her mother about a childhood pet — a tortoise named Manuela who mysteriously disappeared in the early 1980s.

Back in 1982, when her mother was just a young girl, the tortoise suddenly vanished. The family believed she had simply wandered off and was gone forever.

But the truth turned out to be far more unbelievable.

Three decades later, in 2013, after Nathalye’s grandfather passed away, the family returned to his old home to clean out belongings. The attic, packed with old items and long forgotten boxes, became the focus of their search.

While clearing through the clutter, something unexpected caught their attention.

Inside an old wooden speaker box… was a tortoise.

To everyone’s astonishment, it was Manuela.

“We couldn’t believe our eyes,” Nathalye recalled. “My mom was in tears when she saw her again.”

Even more incredible — the tortoise had somehow survived all those years trapped inside the attic. It’s believed she managed to stay alive by feeding on termite larvae in the space.

Against all odds, Manuela was not only alive — but in surprisingly good condition.

Years later, after being identified as male, the tortoise was renamed Manuel. Today, he lives happily under Nathalye’s care.

“Manuel is doing really well. He’s grown so much,” she shared. “I brought him home because I love him deeply.”

Despite countless questions about how he survived for so long, one thing remains certain — he was never forgotten.

Nathalye’s mother still visits him every week, feeding him, cuddling him, and showering him with affection.

“He’s not just a pet,” Nathalye said. “He’s family.”
