The visit is planned for April, with full details to be announced. This will be King Charles III’s first U.S. State Visit.
The last time a British monarch made an official State Visit to the United States was nearly two decades ago, when Elizabeth II travelled to Washington in 2007 as a guest of President George W. Bush. During her reign, Queen Elizabeth II made four State Visits to the U.S., in 1957, 1976, 1991, and 2007.
The visit coincides with the U.S. preparing to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, adding significance to the occasion.
In September 2025, prior to the upcoming State Visit to the United States, President Donald Trump made a high-profile State Visit to the United Kingdom, where he was hosted by the King at Windsor Castle. The visit was historic, as Trump became the first elected leader to undertake two State Visits to the UK, made possible by a gap between his terms in office. In the United States, Queen Camilla is expected to return to the UK, while King Charles III will continue on to Bermuda for a separate royal engagement. This will be the first time a reigning king has visited Bermuda. The last visit by a British monarch took place in 2009, when Queen Elizabeth II travelled to the island.
This trip will be the King and Queen’s first outbound State Visit of 2026. Earlier in March, they hosted the President of Nigeria during an incoming State Visit to the UK.
Alongside this major diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening UK–US relations, there is ongoing speculation that William, Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales, may also visit the United States later this summer.
