As Meghan And Harry Mark 8 Years Of Marriage, Old Royal Tensions With Kate Resurface

As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry approach their eighth wedding anniversary, renewed attention is once again focusing on the tensions and disagreements that reportedly surrounded their royal wedding in 2018.

Although the ceremony at St George’s Chapel was presented to the world as a modern royal fairytale, several royal authors and insiders have since claimed the period leading up to the wedding was filled with stress, misunderstandings and growing friction within the Royal Family.

One of the most discussed issues remains the reported disagreement between Meghan and Catherine Princess of Wales over bridesmaid dresses for the young attendants, including Princess Charlotte.

According to multiple royal accounts, concerns about the fit and alterations of the dresses escalated into a larger emotional conflict during the final days before the wedding.

The incident later became one of the defining flashpoints in public discussions surrounding Meghan and Kate’s relationship.

However, royal commentators have argued the tension between the two women may have started long before the dress disagreement itself.

Several reports have suggested that cultural differences, contrasting personalities and Meghan’s struggle to adapt to strict royal traditions all contributed to the growing distance between the Sussexes and the Waleses.

In various interviews and documentaries, Meghan has openly admitted she found certain aspects of royal protocol surprising and difficult to adjust to — including the formality of interactions within the family and traditions such as curtsying to senior royals.

In the Netflix series featuring the Sussexes, Meghan described feeling shocked by how formal royal life remained even behind closed doors. She also recalled feeling awkward and unprepared during her first meeting with Queen Elizabeth II.

Meanwhile, royal writers have claimed Prince William had reservations about Meghan early in the relationship, while Harry reportedly believed Meghan sometimes felt judged or excluded by the royal hierarchy.

The famous “Fab Four” era — where William, Kate, Harry and Meghan appeared publicly united — eventually gave way to deep divisions that became impossible to hide.

The fallout surrounding the wedding preparations later resurfaced in Harry’s memoir Spare, as well as the Sussexes’ interviews and documentaries, where both Harry and Meghan challenged earlier reports about who made whom cry during the bridesmaid dress dispute.

Over the years, the wedding drama has become symbolic of the larger breakdown in relationships between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family.

Now, nearly eight years after their Windsor wedding, public fascination with the behind-the-scenes tensions surrounding the couple’s royal exit continues to fuel debate and headlines around the world.
