The US president offered a sharply different view of King Charles’ decision to welcome the Sussexes back.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain has already generated plenty of discussion, and now Donald Trump has made his feelings about the couple clear.
Speaking about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their relationship with the Royal Family, the US president suggested that if the decision had been his, reconciliation would have been far more difficult.
Trump argued that too much had happened between Harry, Meghan and other members of the Royal Family for him to simply put the past aside.

His comments were particularly focused on Prince William.
According to Trump, some of Harry’s public comments about his older brother crossed a line that he personally would have found extremely difficult to forgive.
He also criticized Meghan, suggesting that she had negatively influenced Harry during the years of tension surrounding the Sussexes and the monarchy.
Yet while Trump showed little sympathy toward the couple, his comments revealed a very different attitude toward King Charles.
Trump Praises King Charles For Choosing A Different Path
Rather than criticizing Charles for reconnecting with his son, Trump presented the King’s willingness to do so as evidence of his character.
He suggested that Charles was capable of showing a level of forgiveness that he himself might not have shown under the same circumstances.
The president has spoken warmly about Charles on several occasions and once again described the monarch in highly positive terms.
For Trump, however, admiration for the King did not translate into forgiveness for Harry and Meghan.

He indicated that, had he personally been placed in Charles’ position, he would have been reluctant to restore the relationship after everything that had happened publicly.
The disagreement involving Prince William appeared to be especially important to him.
Harry has previously discussed his complicated relationship with his brother in public, including in his memoir. Trump suggested that those disclosures would have made reconciliation extremely difficult from his perspective.
Harry And Meghan Begin Another Chapter In Britain
The renewed attention comes as Harry and Meghan spend an extended period back in the United Kingdom after years of building their lives primarily in California.
Their departure from royal duties six years earlier became one of the most closely followed chapters in the modern history of the British monarchy.
Since then, interviews, documentaries, Harry’s memoir and other public revelations have kept their relationship with the Royal Family under intense scrutiny.

Their latest return to Britain has therefore raised an obvious question:
Could this mark the beginning of a genuine reconciliation?
Reports surrounding the family suggest Charles has been willing to reopen communication with his younger son and daughter-in-law.
Trump clearly believes he would have handled things differently.
At the same time, his comments highlight something potentially more significant about Charles’ approach: the King appears willing to separate past disagreements from the possibility of rebuilding a family relationship.
One Relationship Remains At The Center Of Attention
Even if relations between Harry and his father improve, his relationship with Prince William remains one of the biggest unanswered questions.
The brothers were once frequently seen together as two of the most recognizable young members of the Royal Family.
Over the years, however, their relationship became increasingly strained and eventually played out in public.
Trump’s latest remarks have now placed that relationship back in the spotlight.

His position is unmistakable: he believes William has substantial reasons to remain hurt by what happened.
But ultimately, reconciliation within the Royal Family will be decided by the people involved rather than outside observers.
For Harry and Meghan, returning to Britain could represent much more than simply moving back to a familiar country.
It could offer an opportunity to begin repairing relationships that once seemed almost impossible to restore.
Whether that opportunity eventually brings Harry, William and the rest of the family closer together remains to be seen.
